What is a fractional executive assistant?
A fractional executive assistant is a senior EA who splits their working week across two or three clients. You buy a share of their time rather than all of it.
The model exists because of a mismatch. Most founders do not have forty hours a week of executive-assistant work, but the work they do have needs judgement rather than task execution. Hiring full-time is expensive and underused. Hiring junior is cheap and does not solve the problem. Fractional sits between them: senior capability at partial cost.
What "fractional" specifies: how many hours you get, and that the assistant is shared.
What it does not specify: whether the work is managed, whether processes are documented, whether anyone covers absence, or who is accountable if quality slips. Those vary enormously between providers using the same word — which is why comparing fractional services on hours and price alone tells you very little.
